Make More Space

The “Make MORE Space” Campaign

MakeSpace is on the verge of a significant milestone – we have moved into a larger space to meet the growing needs of our community. We are thrilled to share that the new space, spanning over 6000 square feet and located just down the street from our previous location, will enable us to expand our programs significantly. We need your support to renovate this building from an office use space to a community space.

Here’s a Snapshot of Our Financial Progress

While the acquisition of this building marks a huge milestone, it’s crucial to remember that our journey doesn’t end here. To transform this building into a fully functional community space, we need to come together once again to raise the necessary funds for renovation and loan repayment. Here’s a breakdown of our financial journey and what lies ahead:

  • Total Endeavor Cost: $2.4 million
    • Purchase price of the new building: $2.2 million
    • Initial renovation costs: $300,000
  • Our Collective Savings and Efforts:
    • Over the years, we’ve saved $809,000
    • We’ve made a substantial down payment of $550,000 on the new building.
    • We’ve secured a loan of $1,650,000 to cover the remaining purchase price.
    • Our monthly mortgage payments is $11,800
  • Next Steps and Goals:
    • Sale of our Current HQ will contribute an additional $500,000.
    • Total Fundraising Goal: Raise $1,000,000 by the end of the year (12/31/2024).
    • Progress So Far: Since January 1st, 2025, we’ve raised $600,000.
    • Upcoming Milestone: By the end of Ramadan 2026, our goal is to reach $300,000 for renovations.

Renovation Progress Update

Stage 1: Building Purchased

✅ Complete

We officially secured our permanent building, marking a major milestone for MakeSpace. While the building has been purchased, we are still actively paying off the mortgage, and the most sustainable way we’re able to do that is through your recurring donations, which help ensure long-term stability for this space and the programs it will serve.

Stage 3: Building Improvements

✅ Complete

We’ve been actively working on the building to make it more usable for our community. We cleaned up and leveled parts of the exterior plot of land adjacent to the parking lot to begin creating an outdoor communal space, installed a new roof, and updated the parking lot lighting. In addition, the interior has been reworked and thoughtfully decorated to better support gatherings, programming, and day-to-day use.

Stage 5: Permit Submission

✅ Complete

As of November 2025, all architectural and engineering plans have been submitted to the county and are currently under review.

/Stage 7: Pre-Construction Planning

 In Progress

While we wait for permit approval, we are finalizing contractor selection and interior design details so we can move forward quickly once permits are issued.

Stage 8: Construction Begins

🔜 Up Next

Renovation projects take patience, persistence, and a lot of unseen effort, but we are now in the final stretch before construction begins. We are deeply grateful for your continued support and excitement as we prepare to take this next big step together.

Stage 2: Team Assembled

✅ Complete

Assembling the right team took time and extensive research. We were intentional about finding partners who not only had the technical expertise, but also understood our vision and the unique needs of our community.

⬩Ecotone Design Studio – Architect

⬩MEP Designs, Inc. – Mechanical, Electrical,   & Plumbing Engineer

⬩Anika Shah Interiors – Interior Designer

The team also includes dedicated volunteers and community members contributing their time, expertise, and guidance.

Stage 4: Finalizing Plans

✅ Complete

Before plans could be submitted, our architect worked through multiple architectural drafts and revisions. This was a lengthy and intentional process, requiring coordination with engineers, feedback from the county, and consideration from team members, but it ensured the final plans truly meet our community’s needs

Stage 6: County Approval

 In Progress

Plans are officially submitted and are now moving through the county review process for safety, zoning, and code compliance. We are currently at the Review Coordination stage, where departmental feedback is being finalized before permits are issued. Once permits are approved, renovations can begin, followed by inspections and a Certificate of Occupancy.
